Castell Howell Foods Limited,
a family run business, was formed in the early 1980s from Managing Director
Brian Jones’ dairy farm at Trevaughan, Carmarthen and has since become
Wales’ leading independent food wholesaler.
The company serves over 4,500 customers and employs over 250 staff. By combining
a delivered warehouse facility and a wholesale Cash and Carry in Carmarthen,
with additional depots in Merthyr, Oswestry and Avonmouth, they
provide a one stop shop for the caterer, stocking over 10,000 catering products.
The company have built a new HQ and hub distribution depot, with Welsh Assembly
Government/EC funding support, at Cross Hands, which has allowed a doubling of
its potential warehousing space and improved operational logistics. Completion
of the project was in September 2007. The new site has been built to the highest
environmental standards, with 100% of energy from renewable sources, such as the
underground stream.
The sister company of Castell
Howell, Farm Fresh Foods Limited was formed in 2001. The company primarily
manufactured sandwich fillings and salads and then diversified into meal
solutions, hand made cakes and cooked meats. They work closely with Castell
Howell Foods, who provide distribution for their products. The Company has grown
from its beginnings at Castell Howell Farm and also moved in 2007 to a modern,
purpose built food factory at Cross Hands Food Park.
Castell
Howell is a partner with Wynnstay Plc and the Welsh Meat Company in the Celtic
Pride premium beef scheme and is the sole distributor for the scheme. Brian is
passionate about putting Wales firmly on the food map and takes pride on
sourcing and promoting indigenous produce.
